About BPC
The Church and Its Members
Brookfield Presbyterian Church is almost 50 years old and is located near the heart of Brookfield, Wisconsin. Our Congregation is caring and friendly, and its people are blessed with sufficient resources to provide extensive spiritual, social, and outreach programs for all ages.
The age distribution of the congregation is a well balanced blend of young energetic families and older, thoughtful families, each able to help, care for, and socialize with one another.
WorshipWorship life begins Sunday morning as members and guests gather together in the Narthex. Sunday school classes for adults are held at 9:30 AM from Sept – May. Worship begins at 10:30 AM in the sanctuary. There is a staffed nursery for infants through 3 year olds. Fellowship time immediately follows the worship service every Sunday.
Worship is the center of our Christian life. The service, while traditional in structure, is informal and interactive. We worship in the Reformed tradition, involving our lay people as liturgists each Sunday. The choir is small but dedicated. We have several professional musicians that provide special music periodically. Many of the veteran members of BPC have a special gift of welcoming guests and making them feel at home. Members share joys and concerns regularly, and a sense of community is evident even to first time visitors.
Programs and EventsWe provide a wide variety of ministries and education, and opportunities for service to meet all interests.
Our Mission Committee is very active with projects shared and celebrated as the work of our Lord during worship. We serve meals and share prayers at a soup kitchen, halfway house and a homeless shelter. In hosting an Alternative Christmas Market, we are able to get more of our resources to six organizations. BPC has taken six mission trips in the last ten years.
Members attend Bible Studies, Women’s Circles and Book Discussion Groups. These activities are very meaningful for the participants. We have developed a new church school program to be held mid-week beginning in the fall.
We enjoy organizing potlucks for various occasions, an annual all church picnic to celebrate the beginning of the Christian Education year as well as having a women’s Christmas Tea and spring salad luncheon.
Outdoor worship is held, on occasion, in the summer on a portion of our spacious, quiet, 7 acres.
Our Church has its roots in the Protestant reformation, which means that we believe certain things:- the absolute sovereignty and grace of God,
- scripture is a uniquely inspiring means of learning about God and ourselves,
- God, the creator of all that is, wants to be in relationship with us, and has especially chosen to be known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit – Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer,
- the working out of our faith, while best done in community, is between God and ourselves – no human can judge it,
- there are human flaws that are way beyond mere “self help” – only God can finally perfect us, and
- God calls each person to ministry, as we use our gifts to help spread the gospel in work and deed.
