  • Summer Worship Hour – 2010

    Posted on July 22nd, 2010

During our recent Starting Strong, Staying Strong sessions, there were several comments related to the summer hours for worship this year. I thought I would take a moment to share with all of you our Worship Committee’s rationale for summer worship.

Over past years, the hours for summer worship have flipped flopped from 9:00am to 9:30am and then back again. The main reason for the earlier worship time this year was based on the temperature in the sanctuary during the summer months. The earlier start time insures the coolest temperature and the most comfortable worship experience possible.

In addition, we have listened to the congregation in relation to temperature, insects and logistics for conducting summer outdoor services. While this year we will not be conducting any outdoor Sunday morning worship services we are planning a special event.  An evening Outdoor Campfire Worship has been scheduled for Saturday August 21st starting at 7:30pm near the Myers Memorial.  We are planning for this to be a nice alternative and also a special time for fellowship and reflection with one another. (More details to come).

The Worship Committee is open for your suggestions and those looking to serve on the committee. Please contact me with your valued opinions, concerns and interest. Thank you.

    Worship Committee Chair

  • 50th Anniversary Celebration Wraps Up

    Posted on July 22nd, 2010

June 13, 2010 capped a 3-part celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Brookfield Presbyterian Church. The date commemorated when BPC was chartered in June, 1960.

Worship was highlighted with remarks by the Rev. George Weinberg, BPC’s first pastor; along with Choir Director from the 1960’s, Mr. Don Kirkpatrick, and Mrs. Mary Dalton, BPC’s first organist, leading and accompanying the choir.

Following worship, members and guests gathered in Fellowship Hall to enjoy a light luncheon, an array of homemade pies, and an old-fashioned ice cream social. A presentation of BPC’s history and comments from former pastors added to the event.

Earlier celebrations were held at the church in October, 2009 with a Choral Music Concert, and on February 28, 2010, with a program and a catered lunch.

We were pleased to welcome former members, earlier pastors, and friends and family to these celebrations of the mission and ministry of Brookfield Presbyterian Church.

  • BPC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

    Posted on March 8th, 2010

Our 50th Anniversary Celebration on February 28, 2010 was a great success. The church was packed for the commemorative service. An excellent sermon was delivered by our guest pastor and former interim, Rev. James T. Hicks. The choir performed two anthems, one of which, “Psalm 1,” was composed by our Director of Music, Dr. Wallace Cheatham.  Cathy Bush performed both a prelude and postlude on the violin. After the service, a catered dinner was served to 124 members, guests, former members and former pastors. At the dinner, the opening prayer was given by our first installed pastor, Rev. George Weinberg. After dinner, there was a short program which included the introduction of some of our longest members, a few words from each of the four pastors present and a short presentation about where our church has been and where we are going in the future. The closing prayer was delivered by our new pastor, Rev. Julie Peterson. The program included a history of the church which was also displayed on a time line along one wall of Fellowship Hall. A PowerPoint presentation of nearly 100 photos ran during dinner for the enjoyment of all.

In addition, the Brookfield NOW newspaper had an editor present who wrote a wonderful article for the local paper which can be read at http://www.brookfieldnow.com/news/86203602.html.

For those unable to attend, a copy of the program can be obtained by contacting the church office. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation can be obtained by contacting Arlene Petersen, chair of the 50th Anniversary Committee.
