The Session is the governing council of Brookfield Presbyterian Church and is made up of the Pastor and elders in active service. Elders are chosen by the people. The Session shall have responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding itswitness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness. It is the duty of elders to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation. They do so as they:
- Provide that the Word of God may be truly preached and heard, responding to the promise of God’s new creation in Christ, and inviting all people to participate in that new creation;
- Provide that the Sacraments may be rightly administered and received, welcoming those who are being engrafted into Christ, bearing witness to Christ’s saving death and resurrection, anticipating the heavenly banquet that is to come, and committee itself in the present to solidarity with the marginalized and the hungry; and
- Nurture a covenant community of disciples of Christ, living in the strength of God’s promise, and giving itself in service to God’s mission.
The Deacons are responsible for organizing ways to minister to members of the congregation who are spiritually or physically in need. They visit hospitals and adult care homes, assist in serving communion to home-bound members, and keep in contact with members as assigned to them, The Board will meet monthly or as called by the chair and will provide written minutes to the Session, as well as meet with the Session at least yearly or with others when invited. “…For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 3:13 KJV
